Tom Brady never played against Texas Tech in his college career at Michigan, and he was undefeated in the playoffs against maybe its most successful NFL alumnus in Patrick Mahomes. So, why did the former quarterback take a shot at the Red Raiders?
During the speech, Brady talked about New England’s historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. In its early stages, Amendola made a catch to convert a 4th-and-3 and keep a drive going.
“Danny went undrafted out of Texas Tech. He was cut by three NFL teams. He wasn’t the tallest, he wasn’t the fastest, but he had a huge heart,” Brady said.
And then, he proceeded to knock the Red Raiders, if only slightly.
“And, I hope you guys find colleagues like Danny. Having business school friends is great, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you need a kid from a glorified community college who can bail you out of any jam,” Brady said.
The quarterback was probably just taking a dig at his good friend Amendola, but Texas Tech has some of the most loyal fans in college football. Brady should prepare to receive some banter himself if he’s ever in Lubbock for a game.
