AUSTIN (KXAN) – KXAN Investigates has been recognized nationally for its in‑depth reporting on immigration policy, earning a top journalism award for its multi‑platform project examining impacts across Texas.
The Center for Integrity in News Reporting awarded KXAN its $25,000 Broadcast Television Reporting prize for “Undocumented: Texas’ Immigration Impact in a New Trump Era,” a 100‑day investigation that explored how immigration enforcement policies are shaping life across the state.
The project examined ripple effects on the Texas economy, schools, healthcare systems, courts and public safety, combining statewide reporting, viewer tips and a Spanish-language component aimed at reaching affected communities.
“These journalists demonstrate that impartial and objective news reporting is not only possible — it is being practiced every day, in newsrooms large and small, across the country,” said Rufus Friday, executive director of the Center for Integrity in News Reporting.
Judges commended the work, saying, “KXAN’s Undocumented project delivered a deep dive into the real-life impact of immigration policies and proposals for the parties involved. The reporting was rigorous, multi-platform, and made room for sources across the spectrum.”
