Few spaces in San Antonio match the abundance of retail and dining options available at The Rim. But some people say a new development headed to the Far Westside comes pretty close.
Texas-based movie theater company Santikos is planning a massive entertainment center near Potranco Road and State Highway 211. The area is located half an hour from the well-established hub on the Northwest Side, making it closer to the small town of Castroville.
Corporate officials tell MySA it will live on approximately 20 acres and include luxury auditoriums with large format screens, bowling lanes, and an arcade. Visitors will also have access to food and beverages inside. In a viral TikTok post, San Antonio home sales counselor Vanessa Jones described it as “The Rim on the Far West Side.”
Social media users expressed mixed reactions in the comments of the video. Some, like Olivia Martinez, say the area needs more parks, not buildings. Other concerns shared by folks included that traffic is already bad in this part of Bexar County and that it will remove a lot of green space.
Others, like Guadalupe Leosjr, commented that it was something the community needed.
“If you can’t beat them, join them,” user Megan Martinez wrote. ” The traffic isn’t going anywhere might as well have nice and fun things.”
Santikos has a similar establishment with the same main attractions inside The Rim at 17703 I-10 West (Palladium). Due to its proximity to not just fun, but shopping and dining, it’s become a go-to spot for a night out. The upcoming Potranco Road project will also be nestled between retail pads, according to a company press release. The goal is to bring unique options to what officials have called an underserved market. A Santikos spokesperson shared a rendering of what the building will look like and told MySA on Monday, May 18, that no new details are available.
“As for the video referenced, we appreciate the buzz that local influencers have created, but please note that the press release is the only information we have released at this time,” the spokesperson said.
Since the plan was initially announced in August 2025, it continues to attract attention. A billboard has gone up near the expected address, but the site, for now, remains a grassland.
“We are creating destinations that bring people together,” CEO of Santikos Entertainment Blake Hastings said. “This is more than just movies – it’s an entertainment experience that will be unmatched.”
