In 2023, Juan Alonso, regional vice president of H-E-B and Mi Tienda’s south division told the Houston Chronicle that another Mi Tienda was being developed but the whereabouts were not ready to be made public.
According to a permit filed Wednesday, the new 99,000 square-foot grocery store will be built at 7140 Southwest Fwy. Construction for the project, which is estimated to cost around $24,095,000, is slated to begin in February 2027 and wrap up in March the following year. That doesn’t guarantee its official opening date, as timelines are subject to change. But once open, this will mark Mi Tienda’s third location and the newest one built in 16 years.
The very first Mi Tienda —which translates to “my store”—opened along Pasadena‘s Spencer Highway in 2006. Designed to make shoppers feel like they “stepped inside a Mexican village,” the former H-E-B store was transformed into a space with Mexican-style talavera tiled flooring, colorful papel picado above cash registers and a restaurant offering authentic Mexican fare.
Then, in 2011, the Mexican grocery concept expanded to northeast Houston with a new location that doubled the size of its original store with an aguas frescas bar, panadería with baked goods, a carnicería with marinated cuts of chicken and a tortilleria.
While Mi Tienda carries some exclusive items, the store still carries many of the same products you can find at H-E-B or Joe-V’s. Conversely, some Mi Tienda items are also available at its sister stores.
