Volunteers carry bags full of trash that they picked up during a big cleanup on San Jose Island – also known as St. Joe – on Saturday, May 16. Fifty-three volunteers reportedly filled 287 bags with 1,430 pounds of debris they picked up from the beach and north jetty. The effort was organized by the Surfrider Foundation’s Texas Coastal Bend Chapter and the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas.
