CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO (KFOX14/CBS4) — Soccer fans in Ciudad Juárez will soon have a new way to experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup without spending a peso on tickets.

Local officials announced plans for “Distrito Futbolero,” a large-scale public fan zone that will be at La Plaza de la Mexicanidad, which will allow residents and visitors to watch World Cup matches live on giant screens completely free of charge.

The initiative, promoted by the municipal government, aims to transform parts of the city into vibrant gathering spaces filled with entertainment, music, food, and community activities during the tournament. Officials say the project is intended to bring families together while creating an inclusive atmosphere for fans who may not be able to attend matches in person.

According to city representatives, the fan district will feature cultural events, interactive experiences, and local vendors, giving small businesses an opportunity to benefit from the influx of visitors expected during the World Cup season. Authorities also emphasized that public safety and accessibility will be priorities throughout the event.

Municipal leaders believe the project could strengthen Ciudad Juárez’s reputation as a regional destination for sports and entertainment.

The city expects the celebration to attract both local residents and tourists from neighboring areas, including visitors from the United States.

The FIFA World Cup continues to generate excitement across Mexico as preparations intensify for the international tournament. In Ciudad Juárez, officials hope “Distrito Futbolero” will allow the entire community to share in the global celebration of soccer — regardless of whether they have a ticket to the stadium.
