Attempted theft (listed as motor vehicle theft under the Clery Act), possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2 and theft of property
On May 11, officers investigated an unaffiliated juvenile tampering with a scooter on a bike rack, UTA Police Capt. Mike McCord said in an email. The juvenile was also found to be in possession of a vape device. The juvenile was issued a citation for attempted theft of the scooter and released to his mother.
The investigation into the vape device is ongoing.
Theft between $100 and $700 is a class B misdemeanor; because the offense was an attempted theft, it is classified as a class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
Possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2, in which the substance is under one gram, is a state jail felony punishable by imprisonment of 180 days to two years in jail, with the possibility of a fine not exceeding $10,000.
Theft of items valued between $100 and $750 is a class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000, confinement in jail for up to 180 days or both.
Theft of property and criminal trespass
On May 15, officers made contact with an unaffiliated person who was reportedly sleeping in a building, McCord said. He was issued a criminal trespass warning and escorted off campus.

Criminal trespass at a higher education institution with a previous conviction is a class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, up to one year in jail or both.
If the offender has not been previously convicted of trespassing on higher education property, the offense is a class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000, confinement in jail of up to 180 days or both.
The case is still active.
Theft of property
On May 13, a student reported the theft of a scooter, McCord said. He was able to locate the scooter in the area with three unaffiliated persons, who left the area prior to the officer’s arrival.
