Gloomy days are on the horizon for Texas through the week and into the weekend as multiple storm systems play out across most major metros. Unfortunately, this means the rain will likely still be falling as folks gear up to light up the barbecue pit for the long weekend.
The hot dogs might need to be griddled rather than grilled this Memorial Day as decent thunderstorm odds continue to loom across the Lone Star State from Dalhart to Dallas and all the way down to San Antonio.
In the Texas Panhandle, odds are low but not zero. A roughly 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, which jumps to 40% as the evening approaches, threatens the festivities from Dalhart to Amarillo on Monday, May 25.
In North Texas, there’s nary a break from storm clouds that have plagued the region all week. This will continue well into next week as the National Weather Service says a series of systems continue to blow in from Northern Mexico. This includes Memorial Day and several days after.
“Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely on a nearly daily basis,” the National Weather Service Dallas-Fort Worth office warns. “Just like the storms Thursday, a low but non-zero severe weather threat will exist purely due to the instability of the airmass in place.”
A 30% to 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms looms over the DFW metroplex through the long weekend, and there’s a 50% chance of thunderstorms on the Monday holiday.
It’s a similar story for South Central Texas, including San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and Austin. Rain chances stay in the forecast through the weekend and well into next weekend, potentially marking a dampening Memorial Day in the Alamo City.
There’s a 20% to 90% chance of storms through the weekend, but a more mild 20% with some sunny skies are on the horizon for San Antonio on Monday.
