CYPRESS, Texas (KLTV) – The Bullard Lady Panthers beat the three-time defending state champions, Corpus Christi Calallen, 5-4 in the second game of their state semifinal series to advance to the Class 4A Division I state championship game for the first time in school history.
The Lady Panthers used a four-run third inning to take the lead and win the game.
Calallen took a lead right out of the gate. A bunt single and a bases-loaded hit by pitch gave the Lady Cats a 2-0 lead after one inning. Bullard scored in the bottom of the second inning on a single by Karter Swanson, scoring Peyton Walker. In the third inning, Calallen extended its advantage with a two-run home run to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Kenzi Roberts singled and Kirstin Malone walked before Brooklyn Brannen singled, scoring Roberts. Lila Robertson reached on a bunt single, scoring Malone. Brannen scored later in the inning on a steal of home to tie the game at 4. Bullard took the lead later in the inning when Walker scored on an error by the Calallen catcher.
This was Bullard’s third trip to the state semifinals, with the last trip being in 2022. Bullard will play either Dumas or Prosper Richland in the Class 4A Division I state championship game on May 29 at 10 a.m.
