The former Macy’s store at The Shops at RedBird is preparing for its next chapter.
The site in southern Dallas is set to undergo a renovation, which includes a partial demolition, to bring improvements to the area, according to Peter Brodsky, CEO. The construction project is expected to be finished by the end of 2027.
Children’s Health plans to open a clinic, which was announced last year, as part of the new development, Brodsky said in an email. The center will provide families with access to urgent care, primary care, behavioral health services and a range of pediatric specialties, according to a statement about the clinic.
It will join other medical-focused facilities at RedBird that include UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland’s C.V. Roman Health Center.
The former Macy’s site, located in a more northern part of RedBird, closed around 2017 and covers roughly 150,000 square feet, documents show. Brodsky said “we do expect” retail for the renovation projection but doesn’t have anything to announce right now.
RedBird, a site that’s seen retail challenges and new additions, is looking to push ahead in its development efforts as it serves the area in the southern part of Dallas.
“We would like to add more restaurants and high-quality retail stores,” Brodsky said. “In addition, we would like to attract some additional office tenants as well as a hotel, to create a true ‘Live Work Play Stay’ environment.”
RedBird, which had been set for a new Tom Thumb grocer until around 2024, recently gained a financial institution with PNC Bank.
“We’re excited to welcome a bank to RedBird that genuinely wants to invest in the people and businesses of this community,” Brodsky said
