Auburn vs Texas A&M live updates, highlights from SEC Tournament

Auburn goes down in order in the 9th, and needs to secure just three more outs to solidify their place in the SEC Tournament semifinals on Saturday with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Auburn catcher Chase Fralick entered the inning 0-for-2 in ABS challenges for the game. However, thankfully, luck bounced his way in the 8th as the final pitch of the inning, originally called a ball, was challenged by Fralick and overtuned and changed to a strikeout for LJ Cormier to end the inning.

Auburn now has three final chances to add to its lead as we head to the 9th.

Auburn nearly added another run to its total in the 8th inning on a passed ball that did not roll far enough away for Chris Rembert to safely score. He is tagged out at home, and the game continues with Auburn holding a seven-run lead.

Texas A&M threatened Auburn’s shutout in the 7th by putting the first two batters on base with a hit by pitch and a single. However, Cormier shook it off and struck out the next two batters, forcing a ground ball for the third out to accomplish a similar feat that Andreas Alvarez did in the 3rd inning

Freshman Ethin Bingaman smashed his 11th home run of the season in the 7th inning, sending the baseball 410 feet over the left field wall to extend Auburn’s lead to 7-0. He becomes the fourth different Tiger to hit a home run in the SEC Tournament, and he joins Mason McCraine by hitting a solo home run in the game.

LJ Cormier took over for Andreas Alvarez and immediately sat down the Aggies in order, extending Texas A&M’s hitless streak to five innings.

Chris Rembert logged his first hit of the game in the 6th, which produced another run for the Tigers. Rembert’s opposite field double to right field scored Bristol Carter, who reached base in the previous at-bat by doubling to left field.

LJ Cormier takes over for Andreas Alvarez on the mound in the bottom of the 6th after a stellar day on the mound, where he allowed just one hit and four walks while striking out nine batters on 98 pitches.

The night continues to be a successful one for Andreas Alvarez, who logged his 9th strikeout of the game in the 5th inning. He issued a walk in the frame, but bounced back by forcing a double play to end the inning. Alvarez has also given up just one hit on 98 pitches.

All three of Auburn’s batters put the ball in play in the 5th, but none could reach base. Auburn remains in a comfortable lead heading to the bottom frame of the 5th.

Andreas Alvarez added two more strikeouts to his total in the 4th, but he reached a milestone with his first strikeout of the inning, which was his 100th of the season. He now joins Jake Marciano in accomplishing the feat; Marciano logged his 100th strikeout in Auburn’s win over LSU on Wednesday.

Andreas Alvarez met his first bout of adversity in the 3rd by walking the first two batters, losing an ABS challenge, and throwing a wild pitch that put two Aggies in scoring position. However, he shook it off by striking out two batters and forcing the final batter to fly out to right field.

Auburn’s Taylor Belza reached base on an error by Texas A&M shortstop, who dropped a fly ball in shallow left field with two outs. However, it was not costly as Bristol Carter struck out in the next at-bat to end the frame.

Andreas Alvarez punched out Jorian Wilson with a 96 miles per hour heater to record his fourth strikeout of the game and to get out of the 2nd inning unscathed.

Gavin Lyons could not cool off Auburn’s hot sticks as the Tigers added three more runs in the inning after he took the mound, replacing starter Ethan Darden. Chase Fralick scored two runs on a double to left field, and Eric Guevara added one more on an RBI single. Auburn sends eight to the plate in the inning and is in full control of this one early.

Auburn followed Mason McCraine’s leadoff home run with two straight singles from Taylor Belza and Bristol Carter, which was enough for Texas A&M to yank their starting pitcher, Ethan Darden, after 33 pitches. Gavin Lyons is now on the mound and will look to slow down Auburn’s hot sticks.

Texas A&M made Auburn starting pitcher Andreas Alvarez work in the 1st inning by making him throw 22 pitches. However, he got the last laugh by striking out Texas A&M’s Jake Duer to end a 10-pitch battle. The Aggies logged one hit in the inning, but were never able to capitalize.

Auburn turned up the intensity with two outs in the 1st inning. After striking out twice to open the inning, Auburn put the next three batters on base, with the most notable swing of the inning coming off the bat of Bub Terrell, whose bloop double to right field scored Ethin Bingaman to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0. Terrell and Eric Guevara were left stranded on base to end the inning.

7:39 p.m. CT: Arkansas heads to the bottom of the 9th inning in its SEC Baseball Tournament semifinal against the Texas Longhorns, up 8-1. The Razorbacks need just three outs to win the game and become the third team to earn a spot in the SEC Tournament semifinals on Saturday, joining Georgia and Florida, and will play the winner of Auburn-Texas A&M.

A torrential downpour earlier in the day forced the start of Friday’s quarterfinal action at the SEC Tournament to be delayed until 4:30 p.m. CT, which pushes the start of Auburn baseball vs Texas A&M to be later its original start time of 7 p.m. CT.
