George Strait wrapped up his six-night mini Texas tour on May 16 with his last show at Austin’s Moody Center, but that only means Texas fans will be playing his songs on repeat until the King of Country makes his return. In fact, fans have been listening to “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” the song that earned Strait his first Grammy nomination, for almost 40 years. One fan must’ve been listening to the classic when they took to Reddit to pose an interesting question.
Redditor Emotional_Papaya3282 went to the Texas subreddit on May 12 and asked: “What would the ex-boyfriends be in ‘All My Exes Live in Texas’?” Adding that two for Central Texas would be “Carlos down in San Marcos” and “My himbo, Lee, resides in Wimberley.”
The question struck a nerve with Texans, who replied more than 100 times to suggest what ex-boyfriend George Strait might’ve been singing about.
The top reply went to Redditor bouztsy, who pointed out how many Texas cities are also people’s names, replying, “Tyler in Tyler.” That popped off a bevy of replies such as: Austin in Austin, Bryan in Bryan, Kyle in Kyle, Dallas in Dallas, Jeff in Jefferson, Kenny in McKinney and Antonio in San Antonio. The latter Redditor, sporkus, suggested the lyric “Left San Antonio, sans Antonio.”
Other replies included “That jack-a**-o from El Paso,” from Scared_Restaurant_50 and “I had to leave Austin and now I hang my hat in Boston,” from Forsaken_Ad8312.
Redditor CapitalPunBanking had a whole stack to reply, writing, “Hugh in Longview / Brayden in Dayton / Garrett in Barrett / LaMont in Beaumont / Gil in Brownsville / Gene in Palestine / Dennis in Ennis.”
In similar fashion, mttm wrote, “John Leya in Mexia, Artorio in Refugio, Dumb Terrell Smitty in Gun Barrel City.”
