Just in time for the busy holiday travel season, Dallas Love Field has introduced new high-tech security lanes designed to move passengers through checkpoints faster and more securely.
As of Thursday, Love Field is the first airport in Texas to launch CLEAR’s new biometric eGates, part of a nationwide effort to modernize airport security before the holiday travel rush and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The eGates use facial recognition to instantly match a traveler’s ID and boarding pass. According to CLEAR, its members can move through the checkpoint in as little as five seconds before proceeding to physical screening.
More than 360,000 passengers traveled through Love Field during the Thanksgiving period last year. While this year’s figures are not yet available, airport officials said they expect another heavy travel season.
“CLEAR verified over six million travelers during the 2024 winter holiday season, with approximately 150,000 at Dallas airports,” a CLEAR spokesperson said in an email to NBC 5. “During this time, CLEAR verified over 10% of the passengers screened at Dallas checkpoints with CLEAR.”
A spokesperson for Love Field said airport operations have remained stable despite the ongoing government shutdown. TSA and air traffic control staffing have not been reduced, and passenger flow remains steady.
CLEAR said the eGates program is part of a public-private partnership with the TSA to improve both security and efficiency at no cost to taxpayers. The new technology is also being installed at airports in New York, Atlanta, Washington, Seattle and Cincinnati.
CLEAR plans to expand the program to additional U.S. airports ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when millions of international travelers are expected to fly through U.S. host cities, including Dallas.
