Kara Jakubik, a 17-year-old Life Scout with Scouting America and an Ambassador with Girl Scouts, spent the morning with other volunteers walking through rows of headstones searching for symbols, such as military branch emblems. Volunteering ahead of Memorial Day is significant to Jakubik, who has several family members that have served in the military.
“All the people here deserve to be recognized,” Jakubik said. “It’s great to come out and read their headstones and see which branch they served in.”
