Texas quarterback Arch Manning is off the injury report and is set to start for the No. 20 Longhorns on Saturday against No. 9 Vanderbilt after recovering from a concussion.

The news comes after Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian revealed Friday that “things continue to trend positively” for Manning leading up to the game.

Manning suffered a concussion in overtime of Texas’ 45-38 win over Mississippi State on Oct. 25.

The injury occurred after he was tackled while scrambling upfield, leaving the contest before backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell filled in and helped the Longhorns secure the victory over the Bulldogs.

Manning didn’t participate in Monday’s practice before returning for Wednesday’s session, although he remained in concussion protocol at the time.

Manning has dealt with highs and lows throughout his first season as a full-time starter, completing 60.9 percent of his passes for 1,795 yards and 15 touchdowns compared to six interceptions. He’s also rushed for 199 yards and six scores.

While Manning’s production isn’t dreadful by any means, he also hasn’t met the lofty expectations that were placed up him heading into the year. The hype surrounding the sophomore passer undoubtedly played a role in the Longhorns securing the No. 1 spot in the first AP Top 25 poll of the year.

Manning has a tough task ahead of him on Saturday, as Vanderbilt owns the SEC’s No. 6 scoring defense by allowing a mere 18.8 points per game.

Kickoff between Texas and Vanderbilt on Saturday is at 12 p.m. ET.
