A three-story home in San Antonio’s Monte Vista Historic District has plenty of aviation history to go with its curb appeal.

Newspaper records show the beautifully restored 1926 dwelling was once owned by Marilynn Beatty, the widow of Thomas Buchanan McGuire Jr., one of the most decorated U.S. fighter pilots during World War II and the nation’s second-highest-scoring ace of the conflict.

McGuire, a Medal of Honor winner, died in the final year of the war, but not before shooting down a total of 38 Japanese planes. He also bunked with Charles Lindbergh, then a civilian contractor, and the famed pilot even flew as McGuire’s wingman for several missions.

Beatty, a lifelong San Antonio resident, purchased this home in the late 1960s with the husband she married after McGuire’s death. After she outlived that spouse, she married a third time before she herself passed in the late 1990s.

While the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath residence Beatty once occupied no longer has any outward signs of her first husband’s military aviation history, it’s certainly full of charm.

The $899,000 property’s bright, renovated kitchen features a copper farmhouse sink, stainless-steel appliances and a dedicated wine fridge, while a screened-in porch offers views of a pool, waterfall and spa, creating what the sales listing calls a “private backyard escape.”

In addition to a third-floor “flex suite” equipped with a full bath, the home comes with a 580-square-foot guest house with yet another full bath, making the outbuilding a possible rental, office or art studio.
