Authorities in Boerne are responding to a drowning at Boerne City Lake, a popular Texas Hill Country destination near San Antonio. The City of Boerne posted about the drowning on Facebook around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 24.
“The Boerne Fire Department and Boerne Police Department are responding to a drowning at Boerne City Lake. Please avoid the area until further notice,” the city wrote in its post.
The city stated in a news release that dispatch received an initial 911 call just after 2:30 p.m. regarding an 80-year-old man, who went under the surface and began to struggle in the water.
Nearby bystanders at the lake attempted to help the man but were unsuccessful.
Members of the Boerne Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Boerne Police Department responded to the scene.
As a precaution and to allow investigators to work safely, patrons were asked to leave the area, and the lake has been closed until further notice.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available, city officials said.
