Proposition A would allocate $192 million to help fund the redesign of the Frost Bank Center, Freeman Coliseum and surrounding area to create a year-round stock show and rodeo district.
Proposition B focuses on the creation of a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs using $311 million in the county’s venue tax money to fund it. The City of San Antonio is expected to contribute $489 million to the arena, and the Spurs are expected to foot the rest of the bill.
The proposals both ask to raise Bexar County’s hotel occupancy tax from 1.75% to 2% to fund the developments.
Back in August, the San Antonio City Council approved the term sheet for city funding toward the new Spurs arena, despite pushback from Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. Also earlier this summer, the Spurs pledged over $1 billion toward Project Marvel, with $500 million toward the new arena, $500 million toward developing the downtown area and $60 million to boost community programs.
The total cost of Project Marvel is projected to be between $3-4 billion, and it is expected to take 15 years to finish. The San Antonio Express-News did a comprehesive breakdown of how much each part of Project Marvel will cost and where the money will come from.
Early voting begins Oct. 20 and goes through Oct. 31, and Election Day is on Nov. 4.
