UTEP’s $118M revitalization plan approved by Board of Regents
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is moving forward with a $118 million campus revitalization plan after the University of Texas System Board of Regents reaffirmed approval of the project during its meeting this week.
The funding, which will come from the University of Texas System, is expected to be distributed over the next three years and will be used to address maintenance needs across 105 campus buildings.
According to UTEP, the funding will help address life and safety concerns, upgrade research facilities and restore building exteriors and core mechanical systems across campus.
UTEP first presented the campus revitalization plan to the regents last year. Officials say the improvements are part of a larger effort to modernize aging infrastructure and maintain campus facilities.
Some of the funding will also go toward classrooms and teaching laboratories. Planned upgrades include improved lighting, updated communication systems and new seating.
The Board of Regents also approved additional actions related to the implementation of the projects, including allowing UTEP and other universities to manage project budgets, appoint architects and move forward with awarding contracts.
