LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -This week is bringing a little bit of everything to the South Plains: warm afternoons, increasing humidity, a few isolated storms to start the week, then a more active stretch of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday.
Highs today(KCBD)
Memorial Day temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to near 90s this afternoon under a mix of sun and passing clouds.
Southeast winds will stay fairly light for most areas, and for much of the day the atmosphere should remain relatively stable thanks in part to an upper-level ridge.
That stability is important because it will likely keep coverage limited today.
Rain chances today mainly isolated to the west(KCBD)
A few isolated storms may still develop late this afternoon and evening, mainly west of Lubbock and closer to the Texas-New Mexico state line.
Most will stay dry, but if a storm drifts farther east it could bring brief heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind, and some small hail.

A pattern change will arrive Tuesday with more widespread showers and thunderstorms.
A stronger disturbance is expected to move overhead during the afternoon and evening. Exactly how active things becomes will depend heavily on cloud cover.

Right now, this does not look like a classic high-end severe weather outbreak for our area. Early-day clouds could keep temperatures cooler and limit how unstable the atmosphere becomes later in the afternoon.
