Parts of Texas will continue to see gloomy weather on Tuesday, May 26. It comes after multiple cities received rounds of showers over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Midland/Odessa region is among those at risk for severe storms, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Forecasters say they could bring large hail, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds.
The radar shows that the storms will pass over portions of the Permian Basin to the Lower Trans Pecos beginning late this morning and into the early evening hours. Other towns in the warning zone are Big Lake, Fort Stockton, and Sanderson, according to the agency.
Residents are being warned that gusts could reach up to 70 mph, and hail size could vary between a quarter and a golf ball, per the NWS. A flash flood warning is in effect in Midland, Ector, and other surrounding counties through 10:30 a.m. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with additional amounts likely.
Folks can expect showers and thunderstorms hitting shortly before 4 p.m., according to the NWS. They could last intermittently through the afternoon. Meteorologists say there’s a 30% chance of the rain returning after 7 p.m.
“By the evening, the main line of storms will begin to exit our region,” forecasters said. “A few lingering showers and storms are expected into the overnight hours across the eastern half of the area.”
