FORT WORTH – Jack Ray Lewis, 88, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. He was born on December 5, 1937, in Snyder, Texas, to Jackie and Richard Lewis. He graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1956 and on December 7th of that same year, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Sue Norman. They were married 69 years. Jack proudly served his country in the National Guard from 1955 to 1956 and the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Following his military service, Jack and Barbara moved to Fort Worth in 1960, where he spent many years manufacturing precision parts with remarkable skill, attention to detail, and craftsmanship. Jack worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and owned a welding and fabrication company for many years. His work mirrored the patience and steadfast dedication that defined much of his life. In addition to his work as a machinist, Jack was a pilot who enjoyed flying to various locations within and outside of Texas. He treasured the freedom and adventure of aviation and carried that same spirit of curiosity and exploration throughout his life. Above all, Jack cherished his family. He was involved in and sponsored his son John’s little league football team, Hallmark Youth Association. He loved spending time and sharing knowledge with his grand-children and great-grandchildren. Jack and Barbara made numerous trips over the years to Louisiana to visit before the grandchildren moved back home, as well as trips to Port Aransas with his family. He also enjoyed taking his grandkids on solo fishing trips. He was proud that Barbara loved the burro camper he rebuilt, and they would take road trips to the Hill Country together. Jack enjoyed learning about the world and sharing what he discovered with others. He had an inquisitive mind and appreciated thoughtful conversation, especially about history, innovation, and the mysteries of the universe. Ten years ago he started beekeeping with his daughter, Marilyn. They would catch swarms, and once cut out a large hive from a garden shed for a neighbor. Jack even built a bee vacuum for suctioning bees during relocation’s. He and Marilyn harvested many gallons of honey over the years, sharing with family and friends. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Jackie and Richard Lewis and his sister, Barbara McClanahan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Norman Lewis; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Paul Menchaca; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Lewis; grandchildren Justin Arrant wife Brittany, Tyler Arrant wife Kelbi, Sydney Lewis, Wesley “Jack” Lewis; great-grandchildren Cannon Arrant and Grace Arrant. He was deeply loved by his family and will be remembered for his generosity, wit, intelligence, steady presence, craftsmanship, adventurous spirit, and enduring curiosity about life and the world around him.
