Pack your bags! A bustling Austin suburb is officially the No. 1 city in the Lone Star State for Texans to move to.
MoveBuddha published on Wednesday, April 28, its analysis of the top cities movers have eyed for both interstate and intrastate moves. Here in the Lone Star State, more Texans are seeking out capital city suburbs for a blend of nearby city life coupled with quieter suburban living.
MoveBuddha’s report evaluated 120,000 move searches made via MoveBuddha’s moving cost calculator platform between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. The final results revealed Georgetown as the No. 1 Texas city for Texans to move to, with a move-in rate of 2.61 new people coming into town for every one person leaving. It was the second most popular intrastate destination in the U.S. based on its move-in rate, trailing just behind Ocala, Florida, in first place.
Top intrastate moving destinations didn’t abide by a clear trend in MoveBuddha’s report, with the Top 10 featuring representation across the country. Aside from Ocala and Georgetown, other sought-after cities included Santa Rosa, California (No. 3); Gilbert, Arizona (No. 4); Cumming, Georgia (No. 5); Chattanooga, Tennessee (No. 6); Albany, New York (No. 7); Saint Paul, Minnesota (No. 8); Lancaster, Pennsylvania (No. 9); and Asheville, North Carolina (No. 10).
The biggest draw for Georgetown? More affordable housing than an Austin proper address, MoveBuddha’s analysts noted.
“In Georgetown TX, bright lights and higher costs lie beyond the beltway,” the report read. “Houses here average 16% less than in Austin.”
As for non-Texans looking for a Lone Star way of living? That Texas title belonged to the Hill Country hub of New Braunfels, which reported a move-in rate of 2.15.
