In the Republican race to replace outgoing Attorney General Ken Paxton, Mayes Middleton, a state senator, has a 12-point lead over Representative Chip Roy, with nearly 60 percent of the vote in. That is after Middleton, an oil executive, contributed more than $17 million of his own money to his campaign. To counter that spending, Alex Fairly, a Texas businessman, donated more than $6 million to Roy.
