PLANO, Ky. (WBKO) – When a teacher told Nikul Patel the kids at Plano Elementary needed a soccer goal, he didn’t hesitate.
“You can’t play soccer with one goal. You need two,” he said.
Patel, owner of Plano Country Store, purchased two soccer goals for the school after staff mentioned students wanted equipment to play with.
“I said, if you got us one goal, we would be so thankful. He said, you show me what you want. And he ordered it. the kids have absolutely loved it. They’ve waited for years,” said Amy Woosley, an ESL teacher at Plano Elementary.
For Patel, the desire the kids had to play soccer hit close to home.
“When I was in school, that’s the only game I played during the school time, is soccer. So when she say, it hit my heart, and I want to help,” Patel said.
Patel has also helped fund the school’s various needs through a gas pump fundraiser at his store. One pump has been dedicated to helping Plano Elementary, with a portion of every gallon sold going back to the school.
“It just shows how great our community is, that we’re so blessed to have neighbors and people like Mr. Patel who are just so kind and want to get back to the school and didn’t ask for anything in return and just very generous and kind,” said Ben Frasier, Plano Elementary principal.
The gas pump fundraiser is ongoing.
