LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The 3rd annual Healthwise Expo takes place Saturday, May 30, at the Civic Center, offering health information for families without going to a clinic.
Admission is free. Attendees will receive a directory to navigate the event.
Medical presentations scheduled throughout day
A stage on the east wall will feature doctors and specialists answering questions about health issues.
At 11:30 a.m., Dr. Jennifer Phy, M.D., a fertility specialist, will discuss the road to pregnancy, including when to seek help from a doctor.
At 12 p.m, Dr. John Kidwell, M.D., a colorectal surgeon, will talk about colon cancer, other colon conditions and bowel habits.
At 12:30 p.m., Dr. Wade Graham, M.D., an ophthalmologist, will focus on protecting vision as people age, covering contact lens mistakes, eye vitamins, diseases that threaten vision and surgeries that can reverse it.
At 1 p.m., Dr. James Tarbox, M.D., an allergist and immunologist, will help attendees understand food, drug, seasonal and skin allergies, and when to see a doctor.
At 1:30 p.m., Dee Ann LaFave, an audiologist, will discuss hearing and what testing can reveal. Free hearing tests will be available on site in a quiet room near the entrance to the exhibit hall.
From 2 to 3 p.m., Donnie Henry, a licensed paramedic, will explain and demonstrate how to save a life in an emergency with CPR, first aid, stop the bleed techniques or using Narcan nasal spray to reverse an overdose.
Health screenings and services
Doctors, dentists, chiropractors and other specialists will staff booths offering memory screening, blood pressure checks and vibration therapy at no charge.
From 3 to 4 p.m., there will be tennis and soccer demonstrations along with a performance by the Folklorico dancers.
Professional ear cleaning will be available for a charge at the expo. Everything else, including admission, is free.
The HealthWise Expo runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Civic Center.
