Corpus Christi firefighters investigate two overnight fires across the city

Investigations are underway into at least two overnight fires Wednesday, according to officials with the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

The first happened just after midnight along the 3900 block of Westland Drive near Leopard Street and Up River Road. Firefighters arrived at the home and found flames coming from the back of the residential structure. We’re told Engine 5 began attacking the fire and was able to put the flames down using hoses. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported to anyone involved. The home was vacant at the time of the fire.

Then around 7:00 a.m., flames broke out across town at the Hampton Port Apartments near Cimarron and Airline. Neighbors say the fire was caused by a lightning strike, but the CCFD is still investigating the cause and has not confirmed that information.

Two units were damaged by the fire, however several other apartments sustained water damage. Residents claim the damage came from a broken water line. City crews shut off water to the entire complex while repairs were being made.
