Plans for a new H-E-B in Dallas are moving ahead this week, as the Texas-based grocery store filed plans on Wednesday with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The 10-acre property is at the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway inside the loop in Dallas, and is set to be completed by September 2028.
While it might sound surprising, this is technically the first H-E-B in Dallas proper. There are locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Plano, Forney, and the recently opened store in Euless near the DFW airport. And Dallas proper has locations of H-E-B’s other brands, like the discount market Joe V’s and the gourmet store Central Market.
But in terms of a traditional H-E-B within Dallas city limits, this will be the first. And it’s beginning with a bang.
“We are currently preparing the existing buildings for demolition, and we look forward to building a beautiful location for our Dallas neighbors,” Mabrie Jackson, Public Affairs Managing Director for H-E-B/Central Market, told Chron.
It’s been a long process. H-E-B announced that it purchased the land in January of last year, and only recently filed plans for the land itself. In the interim, the plans received a little opposition from those concerned about added traffic congestion and noise disturbances in nearby residential neighborhoods.
“I look forward to H-E-B being in Dallas but not at this site,” one speaker said at a Dallas city council meeting in December of last year.
But the plans for a 127,000-square-foot store and parking garage ultimately received green lights from the Dallas City Council.
So Dallas H-E-B fans who have been slaking their H-E-B needs by driving far outside the city, or living vicariously through Central Market and Joe V’s, will soon have an actual H-E-B all their own.
