The move marks a full-circle moment for Young, who started his radio career at Bryan Broadcasting as an intern and news reporter at WTAW in the early 2000s. He later became part of the Candy 95 morning show, where he picked up the nickname “Frito.”
Young steadily rose through the ranks in Bryan-College Station, eventually becoming operations manager and program director. After briefly leaving radio in 2017, he returned within months and remained on mornings until the end of 2021.
He later teamed up with Katy Dempsey for morning shows in San Antonio before the pair moved to Houston to host mornings on Audacy country station 100.3 The Bull. Their stint in Houston ended abruptly in March amid nationwide Audacy layoffs.
Young returned to Bryan-College Station in April. According to WTAW, DeLucia later approached him about joining The Infomaniacs after sharing news of his upcoming retirement.
Young made his debut Wednesday morning and told DeLucia the opportunity carried special meaning because he grew up listening to the show.
“I was excited by the opportunity, mostly because growing up in College Station and Bryan and around the area, if you listen to radio, you would listen to you [DeLucia] and Jay and Tom and everybody else,” Young said on-air. “So this is kind of like being on the radio show of record for the Brazos Valley.”
“So we’re glad you’re here,” DeLucia responded. “We’re glad you’re home.”
Young and Dempsey earned several major industry honors during their run together, including a 2025 CMA Award for Major Market Personality, a Marconi Award, multiple Crystal Awards and the Bonner McLane Award for Community Service from the Texas Association of Broadcasters.
Listeners in the comments under WTAW’s announcement appeared thrilled by the hire.
“Nice to see a legend add to a legacy in his hometown. Congrats, sir,” one commenter wrote.
“I didn’t think it was possible to replace Scott but what an excellent choice,” another added.
