Drivers heading toward La Cantera from I-10 tonight and into Friday morning best be aware of the latest construction news coming out of TxDOT. One of the biggest highway interchanges in the Alamo City is closing in a few hours to prepare for an even bigger opening.

Weather permitting, the Eastbound and Westbound Loop 1604 to Westbound I-10 flyover ramp right lane will close north of the interchange starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 28, and lasting until 5 a.m. Friday, May 29. Part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will also close the Westbound I-10 frontage road north of La Cantera Parkway from the same time frame.

“Drivers on La Cantera Parkway looking to access the WB I-10 frontage road may use the EB I-10 frontage road and turn around at the Loop 1604 interchange,” TxDOT writes. “They will turn left onto the EB Loop 1604 frontage road, and then onto the WB I-10 frontage road. They will enter the WB I-10 mainlanes via the first entrance ramp and will exit to Camp Bullis Road to re-enter the WB I-10 frontage road.”

Then on Friday morning, TxDOT will open the La Cantera Parkway bypass from Eastbound and Westbound Loop 160r to the Westbound I-10 flyover. The La Cantera Bypass will open in phases, TxDOT writes, with this opening portion providing a new connection from the existing Eastbound and Westbound Loop 1604 flyover ramps to the Westbound I-10 frontage road north of La Cantera Parkway.

TxDOT adds that a future phase will give drivers access onto the La Cantera Parkway bypass from the Westbound I-10 frontage road.
