COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M baseball will open the College Station Regional against Lamar on Friday at Blue Bell Park.
The 12th-seeded Aggies faced the Cardinals in a midweek contest in February, winning 25-5 in a run-rule game. A&M’s offense dominated Lamar’s pitching staff in that matchup.
Aggies head coach Michael Early said he won’t rely on the past heading into Friday’s game.
“I mean, it’s a completely different game. It’s a completely different ball team for sure. And they’ve had an unbelievable year. Really good on the mound offensively as well. Just a complete team. It’s going to be tough. That’s why they won their league. That’s why their coaches got a really, really, really good job. So I mean, yeah, they’re really, really good and they’re going to be tough to deal with,” Early said.
Texas State and USC will play following the A&M game on the other side of the regional bracket.
Despite an early exit from the SEC Tournament, Early said the team’s response will be key to a deep postseason run.
“Just because some of these games could be lose or go home or you put yourself in a bad situation, you continue to play the game how you’ve played the game,” Earley said. “We’ve been put through the ringer and have done nothing but respond with extreme resilience. That’s from what we’ve done from day one, from playing in tough environments and from playing in a tough league. That’s why I feel good about going into this,” Early said.
First pitch between the Aggies and Cardinals is set for 3 p.m. Shane Sadeo will start on the mound for A&M.
