The Longhorns (40-13) are hosting a regional in Austin for the 39th time in program history. They begin play Friday against Holy Cross (25-28). Joining Texas and Holy Cross are UC Santa Barbara (38-18) and Tarleton State (37-19).
Holy Cross is in the NCAA Tournament for back-to-back years for the first time since 1962 and 1963; the Crusaders also won its second straight conference title and will represent the Patriot League as an automatic bid.
The Longhorns were upset in last year’s Austin Regional 7-4 against UTSA. For the second straight year, Texas was eliminated in its first game of the conference tournament and lost 8-1 to Arkansas. But because Texas was fifth in RPI, it was announced as regional hosts Monday. And by earning a national No. 6 seed, UT is also in position to host a super regional.

Place: UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin
The winner of the regional will play the winner out of Eugene.
Out west, is Yale (30-13-1) and a Pac-12 reunion with the other three teams: No. 11 seed Oregon (40-16), Oregon State (43-12) and Washington State.
If the Longhorns win, they’ll play the winner of Tarleton State and UC Santa Barbara. If the Longhorns lose, they play the loser of that game.
