Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi player Tre Jones returns to the Coastal Bend with the Texas Tailgaters.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One of the country’s fastest-growing sports entertainment experiences is making a stop in Corpus Christi this weekend as Banana Ball brings its unique blend of baseball, music and fan interaction to the Coastal Bend.

Fans lucky enough to secure tickets will see the Texas Tailgaters and other Banana Ball performers take the field in a show known as much for its entertainment as its baseball.

Among those returning to Corpus Christi is Texas Tailgaters player Tre Jones, a former Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi baseball standout who played for the Islanders from 2019 through 2023.

“It feels really amazing to be able to come back home,” Jones said. “I was here for so long. This feels like home for me.”

Banana Ball has gained national attention for turning baseball into a family-friendly entertainment experience. Players dance, perform stunts, interact with fans and showcase talents that go far beyond the game itself.

“The best thing about Banana Ball, in my opinion, is that it’s not just about the baseball,” Jones said. “You can find all different types of ways to entertain the crowd and really showcase your talents.”

Jones is currently recovering from a knee injury and will not be competing at full strength this weekend. Still, he said he’s eager to support his teammates and reconnect with fans in a city that played a major role in his baseball career.

Outside of baseball, Jones is known for his guitar performances, which have become fan favorites at Banana Ball events.

He said his love of music began when he was around 5 years old, after receiving a toy guitar from his parents.

“They thought it was going to be a phase,” Jones said. “I picked it up and never put it down.”

Jones even gave local viewers a preview performance during his appearance on 3NEWS First Edition ahead of the weekend festivities.

For fans attending the games, Jones said they can expect plenty of excitement, entertainment and unforgettable moments.

“Corpus Christi, I’m so glad to be home,” Jones said. “Go watch the Tailgaters game.”

Banana Ball events are known for drawing large crowds and selling out quickly, with tickets often distributed through a lottery system due to high demand.
