EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has dropped statewide, according to new data from the American Automobile Association.
The AAA Weekend Gas Watch reported that drivers in El Paso are still paying the most on average in Texas at $4.10 per gallon, 15 cents less than last week.
The statewide gas price average is $3.92, 17 cents less than it was last week. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.42, which is 14 cents less than this day last week and $1.26 more compared to this day last year.
Officials stated that gas prices in Texas and across the country remain a key concern for drivers, especially as summer travel demands increase.
Although pump prices continue to fluctuate due to seasonal gasoline blends, crude oil prices, refinery operations, and increased travel demand, the recent price drop is bringing relief to drivers.
The AAA advises drivers to continue to expect periodic price swings throughout the summer travel season, especially during peak vacation periods and as global energy markets react to geopolitical and economic developments.
“We saw more than three million Texans hit the road for Memorial Day weekend, but despite the higher demand for fuel, gas prices dropped due to sustained oil prices below $100 a barrel,” said AAA Texas Corporate Communications Manager Doug Shupe. “With the summer travel season upon us, AAA Texas reminds drivers to maximize fuel efficiency by shopping around for the lowest gas prices using the AAA app, combine errands into fewer trips per day, obey speed limits, and keep vehicle tires properly inflated.”
