Authorities are piecing together how several train cars partially derailed Friday morning in northwest Houston.
According to local reports, a total of 11 rail cars were impacted, forcing road closures and disrupting traffic near Hempstead Road and Washington Avenue just before 9 a.m.
Houston TranStar said no injuries were reported, despite videos circulating on social media showing several train cars partially off the tracks and hanging at an angle above the roadway.
Chron reached out to Union Pacific for comment and additional information. However, CPKC, the company that operates the trains told KHOU they were hauling finished vehicles and no hazardous materials were involved.
Meanwhile, drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as crews work to assess the damage and clear the scene. Transtar warned the closure could remain in place for an extended period of time.
