EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – The Colorado Springs Fire Department Fire Marshal, Kris Cooper, has lifted the burn restrictions within Colorado Springs effective Friday, May 29, at 12 p.m. El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal has also lifted the burn ban for the county.
This comes after restrictions were downgraded on Tuesday, May 12.
In a news release, the fire department goes on to say that recent moisture across the region has helped reduce the risk of wildfires and dry fuel.
“As we lift restrictions in the unincorporated areas of El Paso County, I encourage everyone to remain vigilant and use caution when smoking outdoors, using campfires or grills, working around open flames, or participating in any activity which could increase fire danger,” Sheriff Roybal said.
Although restrictions are being lifted, residents are reminded that certain activities remain prohibited year-round, such as:
Recreational fireworks requiring ignition, including but not limited to sparklers, rockets,fountains, and smoke bombsBurning trash, rubbish, yard waste, or construction materialOpen burning by non-governmental entities
