Multiple train cars were leaning off the edge of an overpass on Hempstead Road following an incident Friday morning, according to a Houston TranStar post on social media.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes during the road closure which is expected to an “extended period of time” to clear.

Houston police said the incident occurred at around 8:22 a.m. Friday morning, according to KHOU, which shared a video showing several train cars that appeared to be dangling off the edge of Hempstead Rd.

At about 12:30 p.m. Houston TranStar shared a post saying that the derailment had shut down traffic at Hempstead Road and Washington Avenue.
