LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The 4th ranked New Home Leopards and the 9th ranked Ropes Eagles are this week’s Extra Innings Teams of the Week after both teams won their respective 2A State Semifinal series to advance onto the State Championship games.
The Leopards faced #1 Tom Bean in the 2AD1 State Semifinals, winning game one 5-1, falling in game two 6-5 off a walk off by Tom Bean forcing a game three winner take all. New Home had an explosive game three ending the Tom Cats season with the 18-6 win. The Leopards are headed back to the 2AD1 State Championship game after falling short last season. This time, the Leopards and head coach Brady Webb are looking to bring back the State title to New Home.
The Eagles, coached under first year head coach Nathan Flores, faced #2 Collinsville in the 2AD2 State Semifinals and swept Pirates 4-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two to advance to their first ever 2AD2 State Championship game, prior to this season, Ropes had only made it as far as the Regional Semifinals but are now knocking on the door of their first State title.
Both the Leopards and Eagles are in the same district during regular season and were co-district Champions only 20 miles apart and they are both representing West Texas on the biggest stage in high school, the Texas High School UIL State Championship Baseball games.
Up next, The #4 Leopards will face #10 Iola in the 2AD1 State Championship game at 9:00 a.m., on Thursday from Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The #9 Eagles will follow up after New Home and will take on Burton in the 2AD2 State Championship game at 12:00 p.m., Thursday from Dell Diamond.
