LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock man accused of an attempted carjacking near the federal and county courthouses in downtown is now facing federal charges.

On May 29, members of the Texas Anti-Gang Center received a tip of a carjacking in progress in the 800 block of Broadway Avenue.
Court documents reveal an investigator with TAG arrived on scene to multiple Lubbock police officers rendering aid to 26-year-old Isaiah Houston who had been shot in the leg.
Witnesses inside the federal courthouse told investigators they heard a woman screaming and saw Houston running from security guards and police across Broadway.
One witness said they saw a woman standing outside of a vehicle and holding a baby as Houston ran away.
Surveillance video showed Houston approach a box truck stopped at a red light at the intersection of Buddy Holly Avenue and Broadway. While the vehicle was stopped, it appears Houston attempted to open the driver’s side door. The driver was able to push Houston away and close the driver’s door.
Surveillance footage then shows Houston running northwest to a black SUV parked adjacent to the Lubbock County Courthouse and across the street from the federal building.
Court documents state as he was running towards the black SUV, Houston pulled out what appeared to be a knife from his pocket. Video shows he then proceeded to pull out a woman wearing a red shirt from the driver’s seat.
Houston is accused of forcibly removing the woman holding a newborn baby from the driver’s seat.
Shortly after, a nearby security guard ran towards the SUV when Houston got out and started running. The security guard and an off-duty LPD officer chased Houston as he fled northbound around the west side of the Lubbock County Courthouse.
Court documents indicate Houston attempted to climb into the back of a moving pickup truck.
The security officer, stationed at a bus stop, observed Houston still holding the same knife he saw earlier in his hands. That’s when the security guard shot Houston, striking him in the leg.
Houston was arrested at the bus stop and the knife was recovered by investigators.
Houston remains in federal custody pending further proceedings. If convicted, Houston faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
