MCKINNEY, Texas — A child drowned Saturday at the Apex Centre in McKinney, city officials confirmed.
The Apex Centre is an aquatics and fitness facility operated by the city of McKinney that includes indoor and outdoor pools. A notice posted on the city’s website said the indoor leisure pool at the facility was closed Sunday, May 31.
“This past weekend, our community experienced a profound tragedy,” a city spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “We are devastated by the loss of life of a child at the Apex Centre water park on Saturday, May 30.”
Officials said in the statement that they are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and supporting the ongoing investigation. “The safety and well-being of our residents and visitors remain our highest priority,” the statement said. “We extend our sincere condolences to the child’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
