With the penultimate week of the regular season in the books, three of the four playoff qualifiers in District 6-6A are set.
Prosper and Plano joined Allen as teams bound for the postseason, while Plano West and Prosper Rock Hill are in the hunt for that fourth playoff spot heading into Week 11.
Prosper 59, Princeton 21
Looking to bounce back from a 31-30 loss to No. 2 state-ranked Allen, Prosper took a moment to find its footing on Thursday against Princeton, holding just a 3-0 lead after one quarter and only a 17-13 advantage late in the first half.
But a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by senior Lathon Latiolais gave Prosper a 24-13 lead going into halftime, and the Eagles outscored the Panthers 35-8 over the final two quarters to improve to 8-1 on the season and 6-1 in district play.
In addition to his special teams touchdown, Latiolais found the end zone on each of his three receptions, totaling 130 yards out wide. He caught all three from senior Braeden Imhoff, who was a perfect 9-of-9 for 222 yards and four scores in the win.
Prosper secured a playoff spot for the 11th straight year and will enter as the top seed from 6-6A in the Class 6A Division II bracket.
Plano East 20, McKinney 13
The Panthers had to deviate outside the box to earn their second win of the season, down their top two quarterbacks and shifting their receptions leader, senior Jackson Howard, behind center on Friday against McKinney.
As such, East leaned heavily on the run – attempting a mere three passes on the night – and managed to take control of the ballgame with 14 points in the second quarter to build a 14-3 lead by halftime. Freshman Treyce Seldon, who led the ground game with 88 yards, scored from 10 yards out 45 seconds into the second frame, and Howard pushed the lead into double figures with a 2-yard rushing score with 3:51 left in the half.
Seldon added a 62-yard touchdown run with 1:02 left in the third quarter for a 20-6 advantage, complemented by a defensive effort that saw the Panthers hold McKinney out of the end zone until the 9:07 mark of the fourth quarter, with sophomore Kip Killough finding senior Dylan Mitchell for a 5-yard touchdown. Killough recorded 128 rushing yards to pace the offense, which more than doubled East’s total snap count, 74-33.
