A mother and her daughters are starting a new chapter after receiving the keys to their new home through Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi on Monday.
Brianna Platz was officially welcomed into her new home during a home dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Mary Street.
The home is part of Habitat for Humanity’s effort to expand affordable homeownership opportunities and help families build a stable future.
For Platz, the moment marked the end of a long journey and the beginning of a new one.
“It’s very exciting, overwhelming just knowing that I do have a home and I’m able to give that to my kids,” Platz said. “We can’t wait to make lots and lots of memories here.”
As a single mother, Platz said owning a home provides security and a place her family can truly call their own. “To have a place called home for my kids, it’s very, very exciting,” she said.
Habitat for Humanity partners with qualifying families to provide affordable homeownership opportunities. Families complete homeowner education courses, contribute volunteer hours, and purchase their homes through an affordable mortgage program.
Platz encouraged other parents facing challenges to explore programs that may be available to them. “Habitat is a very good program,” she said. “They help you through the whole process. Don’t be afraid to go out there and look for it. There’s a lot of help for single parents. Don’t give up.”
The home also brings something many families take for granted — space. For the past year, Platz has shared a room with her daughters while working toward homeownership.
When asked what she was most excited about in the new house, her answer was simple.
“My room,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve been sharing a room with the girls for the last year. I’m excited when the girls are in their room.”
The dedication marks another milestone for Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi as the organization continues its mission of helping local families achieve the dream of homeownership.
