EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A fire station in East El Paso was chosen to be part of a countrywide tour honoring America’s 250th birthday and the American flag.
On Monday, representatives from the life insurance company Woodmen Life stopped by El Paso Fire Station 20, located at 8301 Edgemere Blvd., near Burges High School, to present first responders with a special Betsy Ross 250 U.S. flag.
This El Paso fire station was the last stop in a tour that included seven states.
As part of the ceremony, the City of El Paso contributed an artifact representing the Borderland community to a time capsule project in Omaha, Nebraska, which will be opened either in 25 or 50 years.

KFOX14/CBS4 spoke with EPFD Lieutenant Mitchell Marquez, who called the flag beautiful and said the station is proud to have it.
“It’s something that every day I’ll get to be proud to come to work, I mean, you know that’s what we do it for, we’re here to help others in need,” Marquez said.
No word on what the item for the time capsule was.
