Texas Tech was at disadvantage when the day began, having to win two straight to eliminate the Crimson Tide. But after a 5-4 win in Game 1 Monday, TTU has done just that to climb out of the losers’ bracket. Texas, the opponent for TTU in the finals, managed to do the same against Tennessee earlier in the day.
Here are live updates to Monday night’s Game 2 of the doubleheader:
Giles popped out on the first pitch to Pannell then Canady fielded a first-pitch grounder from Roman. Vandagriff hit a double to bring the tying run to the plate. But Canady got Taylor to fly out to right field, sending Alabama home and TTU into the finals.
The top of the order comes through for Texas Tech, with some help from Alabama’s defense. Lead-off hitter Williams popped out but Davis is able to beat out a groundball to the right side. Allred singled to center field and Davis comes all the way around to score on a throwing error by White. It’s 2-0 Red Raiders. Allred ended up on third base. Two walks loaded the based for TTU. But Moten struck out Burns before forcing Terry into a groundout to short.
A two-out hit by pitch with Wells batting matters not. Kinsley Pate entered as a pinch-runner but Pupillo fouled out.
Pannell and Burns start the inning with singles to left and right field, respectively. Makayla Garcia is in to pinch-run for Burns. Terry grounded out, Toney flied out and Desirae Spearman, pinch-hitting for Quiroga, filed out to center field as Vic Moten enters at pitcher.
Canady struck out Vandagriff and Taylor then Hawkins grounded out to end a seven-pitch at-bat.
Williams grounded out before Davis doubled. But two groundouts mean an insurance run is stranded at third.
A flyout and two groundouts for the Crimson Tide as it’s still 1-0.
Burns hit a home run deep to center field to give Tech the lead. Briski retired the final three hitters in the lineup in order.
Taylor grounded to Williams before Hawkins hit a single to center field. Canady coaxes fielder’s choice from White and induced a flyout from Young after the lineup flips over.
A single to left-center was followed by a hit by pitch. But Allred popped out and Lis struck out. Pannell popped out as well.
Not one ball in play leaves the infield as Giles popped out, Roman struck out and Vandagriff grounded out.
Burns grounded out and Terry singled to right field. A strikeout and groundout kept the game knotted at 0.
After a groundout, Canady notches two strikeouts.
Two Texas Tech batters reached, sandwiched around a lineout. But Briski struck out Lis, and Pannell grounded out to keep the game scoreless.
