OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KCBD) – Even after an exhausting week which included four games in three days, Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady was able to post one of her greatest career performances, as the Red Raiders (61-8) downed No. 1 Alabama 2-0, earning their right to meet up with Texas in the Womens College World Series finals, a rematch from last season.
Canady pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, while only giving up two hits and two walks in the shutout win. So far this postseason, the Red Raiders have been 4-0 while facing elimination.
Monday night’s rubber match remained scoreless until the top of the fourth after a solo shot from Jasmyn Burns gave Tech a 1-0 lead. The Red Raiders doubled their lead in the top of the seventh after a Lauren Allred RBI sent Mihyia Davis home. Her run came after a wild Alabama throw to third, which was upheld moments later.
Tech’s victory comes hours after extending the series with a 5-4 win, which was ended by a Mia Williams walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh.
