SAPD Chief William McManus – Officer-involved-shooting (May 29, 2026)
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — An officer-involved-shooting on Friday has been ruled self-defense, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Hector Carreno, 31, had multiple felony warrants, and police were searching for him at a residence on the West Side. Upon arriving at the home near Southwest 19th Street and Chihuahua Street, investigators say they were initially told by someone Carreno was not there.
Not long after, SAPD Officer Matthew Kory, 24, spotted Carreno in the backyard. Police say Kory chased Carreno on foot, hopping multiple fences before catching up to him. During a brief struggle, investigators say Carreno pulled his gun and pointed it toward the officer, who then fired his weapon.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says Kory fired three shots, hitting the suspect twice. Carreno was then taken to the hospital for treatment. His current status is unknown.
Carreno is now facing additional charges, including aggravated assault against a public servant, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and evading arrest.
