SAN ANTONIO – SAISD is moving up the start times for its high school graduation ceremonies at Freeman Coliseum on Friday, June 5, citing expected traffic and travel delays tied to the NBA Finals next door at the Frost Bank Center.
The San Antonio Independent School District said the schedule change is “due to anticipated traffic congestion and travel delays associated with the NBA Finals at the neighboring Frost Center.”
All three SAISD ceremonies scheduled at Freeman Coliseum on June 5 will now begin earlier:
8 a.m. – Jefferson High School
11:30 a.m. – Lanier High School
3 p.m. – Brackenridge High School
SAISD said graduates must arrive one hour before their scheduled ceremony time for check-in and preparation. In the case of Jefferson’s ceremony, that means students must arrive at 7 a.m. The district also told families, “We appreciate your flexibility.”
The district’s graduations are being held at Freeman Coliseum, next to the Frost Bank Center. SAISD noted the earlier start times are intended to reduce the risk that congestion from the NBA Finals could cause delays that might affect the day’s remaining ceremonies.
