“Hattie’s turnin’ a hundred,” he rapped.
“If she would’ve transitioned ‘fore I cleared my name, I would’ve hunted them,” Jay-Z rapped at the beginning of his freestyle.
The opening lines refer to Jay-Z’s grandmother, Hattie, whom he has mentioned on multiple records and who turned 100 in 2025. The “Big Pimpin'” rapper mentions relief that his grandmother was able to see the sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in 2025 dismissed in federal court. Jay-Z had strongly denied the accusations, claiming that the woman’s attorney, Buzbee, was attempting to extort him.
“That 1-800 ambulance chaser would’ve wish one came,” he continued.
The “ambulance chaser” in this instance is one Tony Buzbee, who Jay Z describes as trying to make a buck following the controversy. Jay-Z expressed relief that his grandmother was alive to see his name cleared and issued a warning that things could have gotten far more ugly in different circumstances.
Jay-Z did not only strike against Buzbee on the mic, but also in the courtroom, filing for an amendment to his current lawsuit against the lawyer.
On May 28, Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, accused Buzbee of engineering fake death threats to conceal what the rapper’s legal team describes as unauthorized legal practice in federal court. Carter claims Buzbee and his legal team committed several acts of deception during the now-dismissed sexual assault case that accused the Roc Nation founder of raping a minor in the recently filed motion, which requests permission to amend his lawsuit against Buzbee and others.
Carter and his legal team claim that an attorney working with Buzbee, David Fortney, told the unnamed accuser that the rapper had threatened to kill her. The motion calls the acquisition uncategorically false and also claims Buzbee and his team used the deception to convince Jane Doe to drop the lawsuit before Buzbee’s ability to practice law in the Southern District of New York could be examined.
Even further, according to the proposed revised complaint, Doe subsequently acknowledged in a taped discussion that Carter “didn’t sexually assault” her and that “Buzbee brought Jay-Z into it.” The filing claims Doe also said Buzbee was the person who pushed her to move forward with allegations against the rapper.
Buzbee has maintained that the lawsuit has no merit and has continued to dismiss Carter’s claims, denying any wrongdoing.
“I missed the picnic. Instead of a picnic, I’m in yet another trial for an injured individual,” Buzbee told Chron when asked about being mentioned in Jay-Z’s freestyle. “So far this year, the verdicts total $1.35 billion. Maybe I can make it next year.”
