WASHINGTON (TNND) — The divorce trial between Texas GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton and his wife was canceled after a state district judge canceled the public proceedings.
Collins County judge Lindsey Wynee canceled the proceedings on Tuesday, according to The Hill newspaper.
Last year, Angela Paxton announced on X that she was divorcing her husband on biblical grounds.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds,” she wrote on X. “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
She concluded her post by saying that God was working through the situation.
“I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose,” she said.
Attorneys for Paxton told The Hill in a statement that both parties “jointly agreed that a trial setting is no longer necessary.”
“The parties have made substantial progress toward an amicable resolution of all issues and remain engaged in productive discussions,” the attorneys stated. “We are optimistic that a final agreement will be reached in the near future.”
Ken Paxton recently won the GOP Senate primary race against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.
