Corpus Christi residents will have two opportunities in June to pick up free pre-filled sandbags as the city prepares for the potential of heavy rain and flooding during the summer months.
The Corpus Christi Public Works Department announced it will distribute sandbags at the Cabiness Athletic Complex, located at 3061 Saratoga Boulevard, during two upcoming events.
The first distribution event is scheduled for June 13. A second event will be held June 27. Both events will continue until all available sandbags have been distributed.

Residents can receive up to eight free sandbags per vehicle.
City officials said drivers should have a clear space in the trunk or bed of their vehicle for loading. Drivers and passengers are asked to remain inside their vehicles while crews load the sandbags.
To accommodate traffic, the eastbound lane of Saratoga Boulevard between Ayers Street and Kostoryz Road will be reserved for the distribution line. Officials noted that drivers will not be allowed to make a U-turn from the westbound lanes of Saratoga Boulevard to enter the pickup line.
The city encourages residents to arrive early, as supplies are limited and distributions will end once all sandbags have been given out.
